Pac-Man Fever

Starcade! "TV's first video arcade game show." These are awesome! I don't recall watching these on tv back then...but I am enjoying watching them now! The prizes they show bring back some memories. The geeky contestants hit a little closer to home.

More arcade memories can be found here. This is an awesome video touring you through a virtual arcade, to the soundtrack of Journey's "Stone In Love". It's 31mb...but worth ever bit of it!

Back In Time

I recently got into podcasts through iTunes. All I can say is "Awesome."

My favorite, of course, is Stuck In The 80s. Every Wednesday-ish, they talk about something related to the 80s. What more need I say?

I am especially psyched about their "Name That Tune" session. They play a clip, I guess it, I win a prize. That is the way I see it at least.

We'lll see how it goes.

If You Were Here

I signed up for MySpace a while back, just to see what all the buzz was about. I used the nickname "Jake Ryan" and had the Thompson Twins song from the end of 16 Candles playing on my page. At first I got a few responses from other 80s fans, so I started a MySpace blog (similar to this one) and even wrote back to a few of them, discussing favorite 80s music and movies. What could be better? Then one of them wrote and asked what I thought of her picture on her site.

Forget it. I cancelled my account and never wrote back. MySpace is just a virtual meat market. That's why this movie is funny. That's why I started my own blog here.

Keepin' it 80s.

Words

Try your memory on this song lyric quiz!

I can name that tune in 3 seconds, but I don't consider myself good with lyrics. However, I suprised myself when I got an 89. And even the ones I missed, I was pretty close on. Definitely one of the better 80s quizes I have seen out there.

Thanks Patti!

Doot Doot

Cheesy name, but cool tune. I forgot about this one until I heard it through my iTunes radio today. "Flashback Alternatives" plays 'classic 80s alternative radio the way it was meant to be', at 128 kbps none-the-less. Quite a few 80s stations, but this is one that is always playing stuff I haven't heard in a while, if at all. It's awesome, hearing a "new" 80s song for the first time!

Simple Minds

"Nanisms" have probably been around since the beginning of Nan, but the first documented Nanism occured back in the 70s when she asked, "What night is Saturday Night Live on?"
...
So Nan was over last week, visiting with Jenn and I. Our conversation turned to the topic of wine, as we were drinking a day-old bottle of Charles Shaw Chardonnay.
Nan: "That 2 Buck Chuck is pretty good for being the next day and for being $2.99."
...
If you are reading this and still do not understand what a Nanism is, there is no hope for you.

Wild Boys

Aside from the pop-ups (Internet Explorer blocks them) and ads (it's a free Angelfire site, what do you expect) this site is pretty funny. If you ever want some 80s fashion tips, especially hair-do ideas, check it out.

88 Lines About 44... Movies

Movie quotes.

I remember how annoying it was for others when we'd all get together to watch a movie that most of us had seen. It was sort of an unspoken game to be the first to say the upcoming line, before it was actually said in the movie.

I also remember quoting a lot more movies during the 80s. Do movies nowadays just not have that many quotable lines? During the course of a week my friends and I would have quoted entire movies just in our conversations with eachother.

My kids are all over Sky High. There are quite a few lines from that movie that they yell throughout any given day. Then again, Sky High does have quite the 80s soundtrack.

And it has Lynda Carter.

P.S.: Jenn has an awesome collection of E.T. movies quotes - be sure to ask her about it!

I Started Something I Couldn't Finish

This Random Smiths Lyrics Generator is fun...for about 20 seconds. There is a second one as well, that doesn't tell you which song the quote came from at first. I don't know my Smiths lyrics well enough for that, but it does make me want to watch some of their videos again.

I tend to get into the more alternative stuff towards Winter for some reason. I just enjoy it more when it's cold outside, not necessarily raining, maybe grey skies though. The combination of cold weather and alternative 80s makes me want to smoke cloves though. Maybe I need one of these:

Black Coffee In Bed

Tonight is Jenn's final shift as a barista at Starbucks. She enjoyed the customers, and I enjoyed the perks, but we're both looking forward to her being home now. Time for a little Coffee House Blues. I used to have that tape, but my car no longer has a tape player.

I just ordered the cd used off Amazon. Should be here by next week.

There is a Squeeze song called Black Coffee In Bed, but I don't recall it. I do, however, enjoy Black Coffee. In bed, none-the-less!
